Soap bubble video

Another video

Whilst taking some images of soap bubbles I found the movement of the colours in the surface bubble quite relaxing and hypnotic so took some short videos with my camera and created the video for my youtube channel Geraint Williams

Challenge update 23rd Feb

Made it 8 challenges completed. The latest one 'eyes' was difficult to the lack of enthustic models to help. The dog just wanted to sleep and couldn't get a good image of her eyes and my partner just took the micky and not cooperative. Ended up doing selfies of my own eyes to get an image, do feel I need a wider circle of friends.

HIS COMING WEEK'S CHALLENGE

Need to produce an image based  on the themes 'Bubbles' which means taking pictures of any form of bublles but paying attention to what you can see inside the bubbles. Currently looking at bubbles that form dropping fruit in lemonade and soap bubbles. Will be looking at other forms of bubbles including those that appear as drinks are pourded.

NEXT CHALLENGES

Looking at what to do and how to do it for the next challenges.

Mirrors and reflections (Target date - Sun 8 Mar)

Be observant, notice and record something and its reflection. Is ti possible to fool the viewer. What is real? What is reflection?

Light bulb moment (target date - Sun 15 Mar)

As a main subject, want a light bulb in the photograph. If possible go vintage! and see the light bulb filaments glowing.

Frame within a frame (target date - Sun 22 Mar)

A compositional tool is to frame your subject using a frame within the image, with this image try and use this technique to tell a story!

SOOC (Target date- Sun 29th Mar)

Straight out of the camera (sooc). Take a great shot and publish straight from the camera. No editing allowed. Use RAW? Just auto convert to a simple JPEG.

Week 8 challenge completed

Eyes

The challenge was to photography eyes and show what was within them.
Need some more co-operative models, doing selfies of ones own eye is not easy. My dog is only still when asleep and the eyes don't show much and my partner does not want to model and doesn't take it seriously.
In the end selected a selfie image of my own eye.

Alternate images

Images that didn't make the cut.

Challenge update 16th Feb

Completed 7 out of the 52 challenges, only another 45 to go. It is becoming a bit of obsesssion to complete each challenge during the week and whilst it is difficult to complete them it is rewarding. The latest challenge of Black & White was straight forward but done at home, the next is more difficult trying to take an images based on the theme 'eyes' is challenging as I need a model and my partner and my daughter are not keen.

THIS COMING WEEK'S CHALLENGE

Need to produce an image based  on the themes 'Eyes' with the focus on the eye or eyes – if possible it needs to show detail and highlights!. Have tried some selfie shots of my own eye, not very photogenic, also of my dog Nell which are very better than my own eye. Would like to get a hot based on the dance scene in 'Pulp fiction'.

NEXT CHALLENGES

Looking at what to do and how to do it for the next challenges.

Week 7 challenge completed

Black & White

The challenge was to shot in black and white, although with RAW files it doesn't make a difference setting your camera to monochrome or a B&W art effect.
Had to take a bit of care to get the ring to balance and the book is 'The hobbit' but like the overall effect along with it being Valentine's day during the week it seemed appropriate.

Challenge update 9th Feb

Again the main issue in doing this week's challenge was time and I think the issue will become worse as the year goes on and some challenges are quite specific and it be difficult to find the right image and moment to complete the challenge.

Challenge changes

Changed the order of a couple of the challenges, swapped portaits with Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) as the Portait challenge was on the 29th March and I'm doing a portait course in May so did the switch so that I can do the challenge properly as portaits of people is not a strong point of mine.

THIS COMING WEEK'S CHALLENGE

Need to produce an image that is in Black and White and potenital just high contrast ie true black and white rather grayscale. A black and white image of any subject, as I normally shoot RAW I will probably convert an image in Lightroom. Although will try setting the camera to B&W and see if that makes a difference to the final image. Going to be looking for images that either have a lot of texture so the conversions pulls the texture out or where B&W / Monochrome will create a suitable mood for the image.

NEXT CHALLENGES

Looking at what to do and how to do it for the next challenges.

Eye (Target date - Sun 23 Feb)

An image focused on the eye or eyes – want to see what the photographer sees! if possible need to see detail and highlights

Mirrors and reflections (Target date - Sun 8 Mar)

Week 6 Challenge Completed

Rule of Thirds

Wikipedia says the "The rule of thirds" is a "rule of thumb" or guideline which applies to the process of composing visual images such as designs, films, paintings, and photographs. The guideline proposes that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal lines and two equally spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections.

Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject.

The challenge

So this week's challenge was to take an image that demonstrates the rule of thirds.
Windpump at Wicken Fen Cambridge
For this week's challenge went to Wicken Fen which is a National Trust property in Cambridge, as I knew it has wind pumps that could be placed nicely on one of the lines of thirds and also line up the centre of the sails with an interesction point

Challenge Update 4th Feb

Challenge Update 4th Feb

Main challenge was time, busy at week and with the family so ran out of time to complete all the different scenarios I was thinking about. However the best images was the sweet version of egg and soldiers using a creme egg and a kit kat.

THIS COMING WEEK'S CHALLENGE

Need to produce an image that interprets the rule of thirds.in a photography. Going to be a struggle to fit it in, but do have the weekend this time.

NEXT CHALLENGES

Looking at what to do and how to do it for the next challenges.

Rule of thirds (Target date - Sun 9th Feb)

Demonstrate the rule of thirds.in a photography. Will try and find an image that fits the rule of thirds and demonstrates the rule clearly. Also might be humorous and photography a rule in three parts.

Black & White (Target date - Sun 16th Feb)

A black and white image of any subject, as I normally shoot RAW I will probably convert an image in Lightroom. Although will try setting the camera to B&W and see if that makes a difference to the final image. Week 5 challenge completed

Egg

The challlenge this week was to take an image involving an egg, Didn't have enough time to complete all  the shots I wanted to try but my favourite was the egg and soldiers.
Sweet breakfast, chocolate egg and soldiers.
Going to continue with the challenge for a few more days to see if any of the ideas I have will work out, but going to the image completed with the time of the challenge.
