Challenge update 29th March

The 13th challenge was to present a image straight out of camera, however as we are in self-isolation decided to take advantage of some daffodils and do a Triptych which is 3 images made into a single panel. Used images from across the week as a daffodil went from bud, to flower to dying.

THIS COMING WEEK'S CHALLENGE

Need to change the order of the challenges to cover the requirement to stay at home. Thinking of a couple of options depending on what presents itself. Potential challenges are SOOC, Patterns and Abandoned. With patterns will look for potential patterns around the home, for abandonded looking for abandoned objects around the home, gardent and on my one walk a day.

NEXT CHALLENGES

Currently the next few challenges are as follows, but the order may need to change based on circumstances and the need to do everything from home..

SOOC (Target date - tbc)

Straight out of the camera (sooc). Take a great shot and publish straight from the camera. No editing allowed. Use RAW? Just auto convert to a simple JPEG.

Patterns (Target date - Sun 12th Apr)

Find and take  images of some interesting patterns in the local landscape or architecture, if possible get repeating patterns.

Panning (Target date - Sun 19th Apr)

Take a picture of a moving subject whilst moving the camera so that the background is blurred to show movement. Shutter speed and handling your camera is crucial here. The subject should be crystal clear and the background a spectacular blur!

Abandoned (Target date - Sun 26th Apr)

The theme is abandoned and the photo must depict something forgotten? If possible it needs to convey a message in your photo, ie a call to action.

Week 13 Challenge completed

Triptych

Switched the order of the challenges, completed the Triptych instead of the Straight out of Camera challenge, due to the curent COVID-19 situration it was easier to complete the Triptych.
The cycle of life
Took three images of a daffodil at various stages to create a Triptych that tells a story. Each image was cropped to the same size in Photoshop before being merged into a single image and a bit of brightening on the 3rd image.

The individual images

These are the three images used to create the Triptych

Challange update 22nd March

The 12th challenge was taking an image using composition tool frame within a frame. Whilst wanting to do an outdoor shot for this I ended up with an indoor one due to recent events and the social distancing requirements. Interpreted the theme as a still life with a picture frame used to frame the still life based on a tea set.

THIS COMING WEEK'S CHALLENGE
Need to produce an image that is straight out of camera (SOOC) which means no editing in Lightroom or other photo editing tools other than covert to jpg for publishing. Will decided whether to do this or another challenge as will be self isolating and social distancing for the week and there is limited opportunity for a good subject.

NEXT CHALLENGES
Currently the next few challenges are as follows, but the order may need to change based on circumstances and the need to do everything from home..

Triptych (Target date - Sun 5th Apr)
Take three photos of the same scene. One to set the scene. One as the main subject. And one to highlight something the oberve may have missed! for the advanced put the three photos in the same frame.

Week 12 Challenge completed

Frame within a Frame

The challenge was to take use the compositional tool of a framing your subject using a frame within the image, and if possible to use this technique to tell a story.

Having to sel-isolate home meant I had to rethink my thoughts on this and went for a slight more artisitic interpretation of the frame within a frame challenge. Using an existing picture frame I had and went for a still life of a tea setting using props from around the home.

Alternate images

Some of the other images I took as part of the challenge.

Challenge update 8th March

The 10th challenge of taking a photography around the theme of 'mirrors and reflections' was a good one for me as I do a lot of still life on reflective surfaces. I did want to try and get some architectural or reflections in water but didn't get out to a suitable location during the week. In the past I got a fantastic image in Edinburgh of the reflections of old buildings in the windows of a modern building.

THIS COMING WEEK'S CHALLENGE

Need to produce an image based  on the themes 'Light bulb movement'. The main subject should be light bulb, if possible vintage looking and with the filaments glowing.

Challange update 1st Mar

The 9th challenge was another one where I could do a lot more if I had the time. Would of really liked to have a go at photographing frozen soap bubbles but it was not to be. For the soap bubbles had trouble lighting them, will need to look at the lighting I have. Looks like I will have to try and get a softbox that I can suspend above the subject. Enjoyed doing the fizzy bubbles shots but again time was  the enemy.

HIS COMING WEEK'S CHALLENGE

Need to produce an image based  on the themes 'Mirrors and reflections'. I have an acrylic mirror and white and black sheets which can be used to create reflections. If I can also need to get out and look for reflections in windows, water including puddles. So as the challenge says I need to be observant, notice and record anything and its reflection and if possible look to make the vier consider what is real? What is reflection? Is it possible to fool the viewer!?

The challenge was to photography bubbles, so looked at bubbles in Lemonade and soap bubbles. Tried to photgraphy bubles formed around fruit dropped in Lemonade, then the bubbles created as Lemonade is poured. Finally macro photographys of soap bubbles looking at the colours generated in the surface of the bubble. Had some ideas that I couldn't get around to doing.

It was a diffiecult choice to select an image, in the end I selected a photography of lemonade being poured into a glass
